Subspecialty Education Coordinator Spotlight: Chris Miller, MD

Posted by [email protected] on Jun. 4, 2021  /   0

Dr. Chris Miller is proud to serve as the Subspecialty Education Coordinator for the Division of Nephrology at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.  In this role he’ll be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the participation of BMH resident physicians in the subspecialty of nephrology.

Dr. Miller has been a practicing board-certified nephrologist in north Mississippi for 16 years.  Given the nature of nephrology he provides care to inpatients at BMH as well as patients with chronic kidney disease in clinics and dialysis units throughout north Mississippi.  Dr. Miller grew up not far from Oxford in Cleveland, MS and is proud to call the Delta his home.  With the ever-expanding referral area for BMH-North Mississippi he has the opportunity to care for many people from the Delta region.  After completing college at Mississippi State University he graduated from medical school at the University of Mississippi in 2000.  He went on to complete his internal medicine residency and subsequent nephrology fellowship at UAB in Birmingham.  There he received the Ben Friedman Award of Excellence for Teaching by a Resident.  It would not be a surprise to hear Dr. Miller “teach” the trainees how much more difficult residency training was prior to the 2003 changes implemented by the ACGME.

In addition to his practice Dr. Miller also serves on the Medical Ethics Advisory Board at BMH as well as the Medical Advisory Board of Fresenius Kidney Care.  He enjoys time with his wife Julie and his four kids in any outdoor setting.

Why take the time to help teach future practicing physicians?  Because we will all, if not already, be on the “other” side at some point as the patient.  I want to have competent, compassionate providers close to home when that time arrives.  I hope to be able to contribute to ensure that it happens.
